Job Description

At Alstom, we understand transport networks and what moves people. From high-speed trains, metros, monorails, and trams, to turnkey systems, services, infrastructure, signaling and digital mobility, we offer our diverse customers the broadest portfolio in the industry. Every day, 80,000 colleagues lead the way to greener and smarter mobility worldwide, connecting cities as we reduce carbon and replace cars.

Could you be the full-time Machinist in Baltimore, MD we’re looking for?

Machinist – Baltimore, MD
Pay: $37.67 USD/hour

Your future role

Take on a new challenge and apply your mechanical expertise in a dynamic rail environment. You’ll report to the Maintenance Supervisor in Baltimore and work alongside experienced, safety-driven, and collaborative teammates.

You’ll ensure the performance and safety of our locomotives and passenger coaches by inspecting, maintaining, and repairing key mechanical systems in accordance with OEM, FRA, DOT, and Alstom standards. Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with cross-functional teams, manage work orders, and support rail operations through hands-on mechanical work.

You’ll specifically take care of engine and brake system diagnostics and repairs, but also support train movements and perform component inspections and replacements.

We’ll look to you for:

  • Inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing engines, air brake systems, and running gear
  • Ensuring compliance with FRA and Alstom safety and operational standards
  • Managing equipment work orders using our asset management system
  • Operating locomotives and passenger coaches as part of a team
  • Supporting additional duties as outlined in the union agreement

All about you

We value passion and attitude over experience. That’s why we don’t expect you to have every single skill. Instead, we’ve listed some that we think will help you succeed and grow in this role:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Heavy mechanical repair experience
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to obtain Qualified Maintenance Person (QMP) designation
  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprints
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Outlook)

Preferred:

  • 4 years of diesel mechanic experience

Things you’ll enjoy

Join us on a life-long transformative journey – the rail industry is here to stay, so you can grow and develop new skills and experiences throughout your career. You’ll also:

  • Enjoy stability, challenges, and a long-term career free from boring daily routines
  • Work with advanced mechanical systems and safety technologies
  • Collaborate with helpful colleagues and cross-functional teams
  • Contribute to innovative transportation projects
  • Utilize our hands-on, safety-first working environment
  • Steer your career in whatever direction you choose across functions and countries
  • Benefit from our investment in your development through award-winning learning
  • Progress toward roles in maintenance leadership or technical specialization
  • Receive a fair and dynamic reward package, plus comprehensive and competitive social coverage (life, medical, pension)

You don’t need to be a train enthusiast to thrive with us. We guarantee that when you step onto one of our trains with your friends or family, you’ll be proud. If you’re up for the challenge, we’d love to hear from you!
